Student1 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Austin, Texas. Our team has decades of experience providing timely, understandable data to educators to help students. We have helped a variety of education organizations improve their data maturity with governance, quality, and, integration, and use.
The Student1 Team
Edward Comer, M.S. (President and Founder) has over 35 years' experience as a senior manager, solutions architect, systems engineer, and business/data analyst. For the last 12 years, he has focused his expertise on the education sector, specifically on infrastructure for synthesizing data to improve student outcomes while maintaining security and privacy. He developed the education sector's first detailed K-12 enterprise data model that formed the basis for a family of data standards known as Ed-Fi®. Ed has worked with 16 states to establish statewide data infrastructures and in a wide array of architectural, management consulting, and stakeholder engagement roles.
Kristen Reynolds, M.PAff., PMP (Executive Director) has almost 20 years' experience in education policy and program management. She has worked in education information technology in the public and private sectors with a focus on statewide implementations of educator dashboards and instructional resources and has managed multiple projects related to longitudinal data systems, early education, and integrating data use into professional development. Kristen spent a decade managing statewide college and career readiness initiatives that built connections between schools, postsecondary institutions, community organizations, parents, and students.
Amanda Williams, M.PAff. (Sr. Project Manager) has over 5 years' experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and policy research. She has worked in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors on a variety of projects related to data transparency, database management, after school initiatives, and nonprofit development.

Geoff McElhanon (Chief Architect) has over 20 years' experience in software development and technical consulting. He was the principal architect of the core technologies for Ed-Fi®, including the Ed-Fi® Dashboards, the Ed-Fi® 2.0 Operational Data Store (ODS) and the Ed-Fi® ODS API. He continues to use his wide technical expertise to support the Ed-Fi® community and evolve its technologies.
Douglas Loyo (Senior Solutions Architect) is an accomplished software architect, tech lead, and development manager with over 15 years' experience who specializes in full stack leading edge UI-UX applications. Douglas was the lead developer for the Ed-Fi® Dashboards and is responsible for guiding its implementation in several state and local education agencies. He spearheaded Student1's development of the web- and mobile Family Engagement Portal that includes student performance information, parent-teacher communication with real-time translation, and notifications to keep parents informed of important changes related to student attendance, academics, and behavior.
Emilio Baez (Solutions Architect) is a software developer, database administrator, and project manager with over 15 years' experience managing agile technology projects. He has a balanced skillset that spans from hands-on programming to team management and leadership. Emilio has managed a range of projects and implementations, ranging from data ingestion and integration to custom visualizations.
